Dr Simon Hughes FRCP, FRCR, MD (Res) is Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Imaging Sciences at King’s College London.

He specialises in the treatment of Urological cancers:

• Bladder Cancer
• Prostate Cancer
• Radiotherapy for other Urological Cancers

Simon leads the Clinical Oncology Research and Development Team at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals. His research interests include tumour motion, radiotherapy dose escalation and the combination of novel agents with radiotherapy. He has been involved in several clinical trials in this field and has been on the Trial Management Group for 2 UK multicentre trials. He has published many papers and abstracts. He is also a member of the Editorial Panel for the British Journal of Urology International. He is currently the Director for South East London Clinical Oncology Registrar Training Programme, as well as Oncology Council Member for the Royal Society of Medicine

At the national level, Simon is a past President of the Oncology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine (2011-2012), and has been on council for over 10 years. He is the Treasurer for the British Uro-Oncology Group, and represents oncology at the British Association of Urological Surgeons (Oncology Section).

Simon Hughes’ trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, where he also gained a BSc with First Class honours (Anatomy). His specialist training in Clinical Oncology included posts at The Middlesex Hospital, University College London Hospitals, and Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospitals. He also spent over 2 years working in the Imaging Sciences Laboratories at Kings College London, and the Centre for Medical Image Computing at University College London developing novel radiotherapy techniques for the treatment of mobile tumours. He is currently part of a research team introducing new technology into radiotherapy planning and delivery for Urological Cancers.
